Upnor Mixed Use Development

Sector: Infrastructure

Service: Civil Engineering

Client: MOD

Project Value: £100m+

Project Status: Complete

The proposed development will consist of three separate sites in the Upnor area, comprising 225 houses, 85 apartments, a 120 berth marina, 500m2 of pub/restaurant and 250 m2 of retail and shops.   GCP were commissioned to evaluate the transport impacts of the proposed developments and advise on mitigation measures. In particular GCP were to advise on the transport integration of the larger Chattenden Great Park Development (CGRD) approximately 1.5km to the north.

GCP proposed integrating the transport needs of the former with the transportation proposals for the latter. This included a network of dedicated cycleway/footways, improvements to existing bus services and the inclusion of the Upnor development sites on the route of the proposed express bus service between CGPD, Chatham Maritime, Chatham and Rochester Stations.

The study was submitted to Medway Council as part of a pre-planning consultation and the recommendations were accepted in principal subject to the eventual submission of a detailed planning application.
