civil engineering

Civil Engineering is another of GC Partnership's core disciplines. It is a robust science often involving heavy loads and large scale plant and heavy machinery. The approach to design must, therefore, be pragmatic and be based on common sense in order to ensure cost effective and, above all, achievable construction. Our civil engineering team has in depth experience across a diverse range of projects, both in terms of scale and complexity, and often provides in house advice for our other disciplines.

river walls and revetment

GC Partnership were commissioned to carry out a survey of 750 metres of Victorian river walls, 1500 metres of revetment and two former slipways. The surveys have developed a comprehensive schedule of repairs ranging from making good of brickwork to stabilisation using inclined ground anchors.

beach terrace

GC Partnership were initially commissioned to undertake value engineering of a previous design which exceeded the client's budget. Our audit and subsequent commission to re-design the terrace in reinforced concrete resulted in a saving of over 20% which not only enabled the project to go ahead but provided additional funding for high quality stainless steel balustrades and street furniture. This project won the I.C.E South East Region 'small project of the year' award in 2005.

culvert sealing

GC Partnership were commissioned to research and survey 1700 metres of Victorian water make up culverts in a former naval dockyard and propose a method for sealing the culverts. The survey included the extensive use of engineering dive teams in order to obtain accurate data. GC Partnership's chosen solution was the use of light weight foamed concrete. In all 7500 cubic metres of concrete were used and now the culverts are effectively sealed and made safe.

rail projects

GC Partnership are working on and currently have staff seconded to the London Underground Connect project for Tube Lines Ltd. This involves the assessment of structures, design of new structures, cable management and station modifications. All staff working on the project are fully conversant with L.U.L and T.L.L engineering standards and procedures.

bridges

GC Partnership are currently commissioned to design a road bridge that spans twin Network Rail tracks. The chosen design is based on a steelwork deck built 'off line' and lifted, intact, into the abutments in order to minimise the amount of line closures.
